Valparaíso Port has made headlines by setting a record at the start of 2025. In January alone, the port handled 858,830 tons of cargo—an impressive 35.7% increase compared to the same month in 2024. This sharp rise is primarily driven by a 139.5% jump in steel-related shipments and a 25.3% boost in fresh fruit exports.

The report from Empresa Portuaria Valparaíso (EPV) shows that over 525,000 tons were handled between November and January, reinforcing Valparaíso’s position as one of Chile’s leading ports. Improved port operations, better customs coordination, and infrastructure investments are key contributors to this performance.

This growth isn’t occurring in isolation. It reflects a broader trend of enhanced maritime logistics and may directly benefit importers through faster scheduling, competitive freight rates, and improved capacity.

📌 Implications for Import/Export Companies:

  • Faster and more efficient cargo handling processes.

  • Better negotiation power with logistics providers.

  • Expanding infrastructure opens new trade route possibilities.
